At its biggest ever event in Shenzhen, China, Xiaomi has finally launched the Mi 8 flagship smartphone. It’s worth mentioning here that this event was organised on the 8th anniversary of Xiaomi.

Along with the Mi 8, Xiaomi has also launched the Mi 8 SE which comes with a notch on the display like the Nokia X6iPhone X, OnePlus 6 also like Xiaomi’s own Mi MIX 2S. The company has also launched a series of other products including the MIUI 10, Mi 3 Band and others.

The Mi 8 meets the majority of the specs already leaked like the Snapdragon 845, dual cameras and dual GPS.

Specifications, Features of Xiaomi Mi 8

The Mi 8 is Xiaomi’s high-end flagship smartphone that comes with impressive specs like it comes with an AMOLED display that measures 6.21-inches with 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, you’ll find an octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC clocked at up to 2.8 GHz paired with an Adreno 630 GPU and 8GB of RAM. The internal storage is 256GB.

At the backside, you’ll get a dual camera module with 12MP + 12MP AI sensors. The main (primary) sensor is a Sony IMX363 and is equipped with four-axis optical image stabilization and AI scene recognition. The secondary sensor is a Samsung SK53M3.

The front houses a 20-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture and features like AI Beautify and AI selfie portrait. The fingerprint sensor is located at the back of the device. There is an Explore Edition of Mi 8 which is a more exclusive version and comes with an underscreen fingerprint sensor much like the Vivo APEX.

The highlight of the Mi 8 camera is the 3D facial recognition which uses Infrared to scan 4096 facial points, making the feature more secure. This type of secure facial recognition technology is used by Apple called Face ID.

Specifications, Features of Xiaomi Mi 8 SE

The Mi 8 SE is a trimmed down version of the Mi 8 sharing the similar design but less powerful specs. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and like the Mi 8 Explore Edition, it comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

It is being said that the fingerprint scanner on the Mi 8 SE works more accurate and faster than the one used on the Vivo X21 UD. It features a smaller 5.88-inch AMOLED display and at the rear dual camera with 12MP + 5MP is housed.

The front camera is 20-megapixel and comes with AI Beautify and AI selfie portrait mode.

Price and Availability of Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 SE

The Mi 8 smartphone is priced at 2,699 yuan (Rs.28,450 approx.). for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, while the 6GB RAM + 128GB model is priced at 2,999 yuan (Rs.31,600 approx.).

The Mi 8 SE, on the other hand, is priced at 1,799 yuan (Rs.18,970 approx).

The pre-orders of Mi 8 has started from today with shipping expected to be started from June 5 onwards. The Mi 8 SE will be available for purchase starting June 8 in China. However, the availability of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition has been announced yet. It has been priced at 3,699 yuan (Rs.38,985 approx.).
