WebP Image Extensions

It often happens that when you download an image from Chrome you find that the image in format .webp.

WebP is Google’s main image compression format since 2010, which can maintain the quality and reduce the size of PNG images by 45%, which is very useful for fast loading of web pages.

At present, Chrome/Opera browser has perfectly supported .webp, and now “dead” Microsoft also joined.

With the Windows 10 Quick Preview update Build 17692, the Edge browser can also install the “Webp Image Extensions“. Thanks for the release of official extension to support it.

One thing to be noted here is that the Webp Image Extensions is under development and may not work for many users.

What is the difference after support?

The extension is available on the Microsoft store.

Yesterday Microsoft announced the new Build 17692 for Windows 10 Redstone 5 with lots of improvement and new features.
