Xiaomi Redmi Y2

As expected, Xiaomi has finally launched the Real You Smartphone, Redmi Y2 in India and the MIUI 10. The Redmi Y2 is an India version of the Redmi S2 launched in China. MIUI 10 is the latest version of company’s OS skin that was launched on May 31 at an event in Shenzhen, China.

The Redmi Y2 is focussed on front camera as the company has been teasing it for a while now. Amazon India, which is the official partner of Xiaomi to sell the Redmi Y2 also posted some images hinting at the features of the handset.

It’s the successor to Xiaomi Redmi Y1 which was company’s first selfie-focussed smartphone.

Specifications of Redmi Y2

It has a full brushed metallic finish with discreet separation lines both on top and bottom and has a 5.99 full-screen display with HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

The highlight of the Redmi Y2 is the 16-megapixel front camera powered by Artificial Intelligence and has a large f/2.0 aperture, 79.8″ wide angle lens. It runs on company’s newly developed AI algorithm called AI-Selfie Superstar.

It offers features like Low-light Selfie, Auto HDR, AI Beauty and AI-portrait selfie.

As far as the rear camera of Redmi Y2 is concerned, the company says that has same camera setup as seen in the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The dual camera comes with the primary sensor of 12-megapixel while the secondary sensor is 5-megapixel.

The handset runs on Android Oreo with MIUI 9.5 skin on top and has face-unlock feature along with a fingerprint sensor at the back. The face unlock is enabled with AI that makes it more secure.

The Redmi Y2 is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset and packs a 3080 mAh battery with a standby time of more than 31 days and watching videos continuously it last for 10 hours. The good thing is that it does have three card slots, one for microSD and two for SIM. Xiaomi is also giving a free clear case for Redmi Y2 inside the box as an introductory offer.

Price and Availability of Xiaomi Redmi Y2 in India

The Redmi Y2 in India starts at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage version, and Rs. 12,999 for the model with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, respectively. As mentioned earlier, the smartphone will be available exclusively via Amazon India.

The first sale of Redmi Y2 in India will start 1t 12 noon ISt on 12 June.
