After launching the most innovative Find X smartphone, Oppo has now filed a patent for a smartphone with a second display at the back and no front camera.
The patent was filed at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) on 12 September 2017 and it was published on 12 July 2018 which is for an ‘Electronic Device’. The published filing comes with a concept image of the handset.
We can see the handset with fullscreen front display and a second screen on the back, this is also a touch display. Scenes recorded with the camera can be displayed on this second screen. With just a click, a user can switch to the second screen with an icon. Just like we switch to the front camera on our smartphones.
In addition to changing between screen 1 and 2, it is also possible to display the camera content both on the front and the back. Oppo has skipped the front camera because in this smartphone selfies can be taken with the main camera, which is usually of better quality than a front camera.
Currently, it is not known whether the display will be an LCD or OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode), there is also the possibility that a flexible display can also be used so that the edges can be bent and thus nicely in line with the housing.
There filing also reveals some images with several positions for the second camera. The dual camera can be placed underneath each other, but it is also possible to place a camera on both sides of the second display. As a third alternative, a situation is sketched in which the second camera is shown below the display.
