Spotify Lite

Music streaming service Spotify has released the Spotify Lite app. As the budget and mid-range smartphone market growing more apps are coming in lite versions with small size to offer fast experience to users.

The Spotify Lite app is only 15 MB in size and focuses on budget smartphones running on Android Go smartphones in emerging markets. Being a lite version it is much more fluid than the normal version but has some limited functionality.

For example, with Spotify Lite you can only play tracks in a random order with no search feature. Also, there is no support for Spotify Connect and there is no way to control playlists.

Other features unavailable in Spotify Lite are music downloads and playback quality control. According to developers, these features could end up impacting the user experience in the application.

For now, the Spotify Lite is not yet been released in the Play Store for all users, but only available as Beta version for selected users. Because of this, we must wait for official availability for the public.

Even so, it’s great to see that a number of apps are embracing the idea of making lighter versions for those people who own a more basic smartphone running Android Go or Android One.
