It becomes quite a tricky situation when you have to choose between two smartphones with almost the same features and within a limited budget. In such cases, we need to examine the specifications carefully and compare every step. So guys, in this article, we’ll be looking at some the main features of the Motorola Moto Z3 Play and compare it with the OnePlus 6. A situation which arises here is that I go to the market and find out that OnePlus 6 costs $30 more than the MotoZ3 Play. So, we need to make some serious comparisons here.
Moto Z3 Play vs OnePlus 6
The design for Moto Z3 Plus is almost the same as previous Moto Z series devices which is vital for maintaining compatibility with Moto Mods. Attaching the ‘Moto Mods’ can actually transform your Moto Z3 Play phone into an entirely new device like a superzoom camera, projector or boom box and more. The Z3 is compatible with all current 14 Mods and you get free Moto Mod with Moto Z3.
The main difference with Moto Z3 is that a large portion of the body is glass and smoothy. Z3 has a glass front and back with metal frame wrapping its sides. Well, folks, the headphone jack is not available here.
The fingerprint sensor on Z3play is located on the right side whereas power button is on the left side right opposite the fingerprint sensor in mirror position. Hence, this can be considered as another major change. Well, The fingerprint sensor will be more comfortable to reach with your thumb in case of Z3 play while any speed or accuracy issue was not noticed.
The OnePlus6, unlike MotoZ3, is quite different from its previous models. The back of the phone is metallic instead of glass and camera is rotated and moved towards the centre of the body. The OnePlus 6 looks rough and sturdier than the Z3 and weighs 177 grams and 7.7mm thick. The shape of the rear fingerprint scanner is also now oval instead of 5T’s circle. The exterior consists of Gorilla Glass 5.
Both Z3 and Oneplus 6 have the 18:9 aspect ratio in common and smaller and thin bezels on all sides which helps in getting a larger screen area. The MotoZ3 play boasts of 6.01 inches screen using Super AMOLED technology with FHD + resolution, while the display OnePlus 6 comes with slightly bigger 6.28 inches display.
The AMOLED display in Z3play is colourful and vibrant with excellent contrast including deep dark blacks typical of AMOLED display. Although there were some issues with the FHD + resolution, it’s comfortable for browsing the web and enjoying media.
The OnePlus 6 gives you some additional options to retune your display settings to make things more comfortable for you. You can improve the colour accuracy with its RGB mode and further, there are colour temperature sliders to fine tune things as per your preference. But here, a thing worth mentioning is that a low resolution helps your battery charging run longer.

So folks, looking at the above mentioned specifications of both Moto Z3play and OnePlus 6, I would suggest you to go for the latter because the money difference is not huge and you get more facilities by shelling out additional $30. Moreover, you can also choose between more colours with OnePlus 6. Although Moto Z3 play is lighter in weight but that is not a big issue.
The camera and battery features also attract me towards the OnePlus 6 and the tough build are good in time of excess smartphone usage. For those who are emotionally attached to the Moto Z series, I respect their choice but in terms of competition, you would certainly want to get the best value for your money.
