Qualcomm has announced a new chip under its 600 series, Snapdragon 670 for mid-range mobile devices. The latest edition in the series comes with superior performance, camera capabilities, and AI tech.
The new Snapdragon 670 is different in many ways from other 600 chipsets because it comes with Qualcomm Kryo CPU, Qualcomm Spectra ISP, Qualcomm AI Engine, and Snapdragon X12 LTE modem.
Now mobile companies will get more options to add features and they can work on different mobile device sizes which was limited in previous generations.
Till now in 2018, Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon 429, Snapdragon 439, Snapdragon 632, and Snapdragon 710 chipsets, so the Snapdragon 670 is the fifth SoC in the line.
The company said that it is capable of delivering 15% faster performance because of Kryo 360 as compared to its predecessor Snapdragon 660 which uses Kryo 260 cores. Another reason for the enhanced performance is because it uses two performance cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, coupled with six efficiency cores clocked at up to 1.7 GHz.
“The Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform is the latest addition to the family and is engineered to deliver cutting-edge technologies to mainstream smartphone buyers who want to make the most of what their Snapdragon-powered device has to offer”, the company said.
We’ve recently seen many high-end and upper-midrange smartphones equipped with AI support in their cameras, but the difference between these sections are very high. The AI capability on mid-range devices was nowhere around.
But the Snapdragon 670 employs the same digital signal processing (DSP) found in higher-end mobile devices: the Qualcomm Hexagon 685 DSP. So now the AI capability on mid-range mobile devices can stand against the high-tier devices.
Another feature of the Snapdragon 670 is its X12 LTE Modem which offers fast network speeds even in congested areas and holds onto strong signals even in areas with weak reception.
