AT&T on Friday introduced worlds first Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot by showcasing the first actual image of the device. The company said in a blog post that this would be the world’s first standard based millimeter wave mobile 5G device.
“Today’s news is a seminal moment in the advancement of mobile 5G technology,” said David Christopher, president, AT&T Mobility and Entertainment. “This proves we are well on our way to the promise of mobile 5G for consumers.”
The company further revealed that the development of the first 3GPP 5G NR standards-based mobile 5G connection is made possible by AT&T’s mobile network leadership and with the Ericsson equipment support.
AT&T Netgear Nighthawk 5G Hotspot Availability
AT&T announced that it has plan to launch its Netgear Nighthawk 5G Hotspot in at least 12 US cities this year and 19 more cities will also get this device by early 2019. The cities getting the Netgear Nighthawk 5G Hotspot in the US this year will be Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Louisville, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Raleigh, San Antonio, and Waco.
The Netgear Nighthawk 5G Hotspot will use Qualcomm X50 modem. However, AT&T didn’t reveal any other specs detail about the device.
The company also said that it has no plan for expanding the device to other markets out of US as of now, but will surely make the device available after completion of the device locally. In addition to this, all four major US carriers including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint will be heading towards launching their first 5G service soon
AT&T didn’t also reveal the pricing and the service plans for its Netgear Nighthawk 5G Hotspot device.
