Google has released a new support app for its Pixel Phones called “Repair Center”. The app is eligible for all Google Pixel models including the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and obviously the upcoming Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
Currently, the app is released for users in the US, however, the repair will only be free for the phones that are under warranty. Those that are out of warranty, the app will give an estimated value of the amount charged for the repair.
To use the app, you’ve to sign in to Google Play and download it. Soon after opening the app it will recognize the Pixel phone and ask for the IMEI number. You also get several links to Google support pages guiding how you can possibly fix your phone.
There are sections based on problems giving you step-by-step options like “audio problem” or “problem in the rear camera”, among others so that the defect is identified. One thing to note here is that some problems are not covered with the free support even if your Pixel phone is under warranty, such as a screen “crashed” by accident.
Right now, there is no word if/when the “Repair Center” app will have a global release or not.
