Xiaomi started-off its smartphone business with Redmi phones which are also the most popular Xiaomi series of phones. Now the company has announced to make the Redmi as an independent brand.
Last year, the company introduced the POCO brand and launched the Poco F1 as the first phone under the brand.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun explains the reason for splitting the Redmi from Xiaomi is to focus on these brands. He says, “The Mi and the Redmi are separated, and each developed in different directions, which could make the Mi brand better. Redmi focuses on the ultimate price/performance ratio, primarily sold through e-commerce platforms, while the Mi is targeted towards high-end devices and mainly meant for offline market.”
Redmi is also launching a new phone on January 10 in China with a 48-megapixel camera. However, there is no information which phone is this. We’re keeping an eye on every development and we’ll update on the same. So stay tuned.
