Huawei Mate X

As expected, Huawei introduced its foldable Mate X smartphone on Sunday at an event in Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. The highlight is that it’s the first flexible smartphone to have 5G support.

The device has premium settings in both the specifications and features. There is a quad-camera setup and double battery should also be out of the socket for many hours.

Unlike the main competitor – the Galaxy Fold -, the Mate X features two screens to the outside of the device. In this way, its unique display joins with the secondary to form the smartphone “unfolded”.

In addition, for the dual display to start operation, it is not necessary to open it completely. Falcon Wings allow you to reach a wider viewing angle for users, as well as allowing you to stand on some flat surface.

Another highlight of the device is its thinner body compared to competitors, with a virtually borderless screen. When open, it is 5.4 mm thick – against 5.9 mm of the new iPad Pro and 6.9 mm of another folding. When folded, the dimension is 11 mm.

Huawei Mate X Specifications

There is a total of three camera sensors positioned in the rear of the device for capturing images and the fourth is a ToF lens, for depth. In this way, they become usable with both the open device and the closed device (for selfies).

One of its main features is the fifth-generation (5G) mobile network support via the Balong 5000 modem – which works in conjunction with the Kirin 980 chipset. It promises a performance that lets you download 1GB in just three seconds.

The hardware is compatible with both sub-6 GHz frequencies when millimeter waves (mmWave). In addition, the smartphone is the first to support NSA ( non-standalone ) and SA ( standalone ) networks simultaneously. The 5G can only be used in the SIM slot 1.

The Mate X comes with 55W super fast charging technology which makes it possible to charge 85% of the 4,500 mAh in just half an hour. It has a 6.6-inch main screen and a 6.38-inch secondary display, which form a unique 8-inch display when open.
