LG debuted the Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) technology in its G8 ThinQ at the MWC 2019. Now the company has officially named the technology as “Display Speaker” and looking to expand it in its other devices. We might also see this tech in the LG smartwatches.
In CSO technology, the OLED display of the device can function as a sound amplifier by means of vibration.
The trademark for the name ‘Display Speaker’
LG has finally registered the commercial name of the technology as “Display Speaker”. The information is on the page of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
However, the point to note here is that the commercial name is categorized as “Class 9”. This indicates that LG has plans to expand the technology for other devices. These includes audio speakers for smartphones; smartphones in the form of wristwatches; displays for smartphones; OLED displays that function as audio amplifiers and audio speakers.
It’s not yet confirmed whether the next LG smartwatch will feature this Display Speaker technology or not. So we’ve to wait for some more time in order to see if the company goes for this or integrate more features.
This is not going to be easy because the screen of this type of device is much smaller than that found on a smartphone. So stay tuned as we’ll keeping our eyes on the updates.
