5G superfast connectivity is finally coming to the UK. Vodafone UK today announced that it’ll launch its 5G network in the UK starting July 3, 2019, in seven cities. The 5G service will go live for business and consumer customers in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, and London.
Other cities including Birkenhead, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Guildford, Newbury, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Warrington, and Wolverhampton to get the service later this year.
The interesting point to note is that Vodafone says the 5G will be offered at a price of 4G. 5G roaming will be available in Germany, Italy, and Spain over the summer.
“The UK is leading the way in adopting 5G, with Vodafone the first operator to name an official switch-on date. Vodafone will also offer a 5G router for use in the home and office to give customers without a fixed line connection high-speed broadband access, the company said.
Vodafone UK CEO Nick Jeffery said: “We started our 5G journey more than three years ago. We led the way in setting 5G standards to ensure phones and networks work well together. We upgraded our masts to be able to take 5G without disruption. And we were the first UK company to test 5G over our all-fiber core fixed and mobile network.
