A new HTC smartphone with an unknown name has recently been spotted on the well-known benchmarking platform Geekbench. The phone appears with a model number HTC 2Q741 having MediaTek processor and 6GB of RAM.
The phone is also running Android 9 Pie operating system. This seems to be a mid-range device from the Taiwanese tech giant. It could even be a simple MediaTek variant of the same device spotted a few weeks ago with the Snapdragon 710 and model number 2Q7A100.
In December last year, HTC, which for some years has been doing anything but good, announced its strategy to re-launch in 2019. The plan is to focus exclusively on high-end devices and on the mid-range ones.
HTC smartphones are not doing well but the only hope alive for now is only the sector linked to augmented reality. If at present the HTC U12 series devices seem to have very little appeal, HTC may soon have new arrows at their bow.
In recent weeks there has been talking of several new products, from the 5G smartphone to the mid-range with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC up to the planned new blockchain device.
In October last year, HTC Exodus 1 was launched as the first blockchain smartphone from a big brand. The company also announced the HTC Desire 12s under the mid-range segment Taiwan in December last year.
