The Razer Phone came on the market as one of the first to bring a higher screen refresh rate of 120 Hz LCD display, and it was so praised by users that several other manufacturers began to do the same.
Today we already have models like OnePlus 7 Pro, Nubia Red Magic 3 and the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 2, which enjoy something similar. The original Razer phone was officially launched in 2017 and has even gained a successor. Now it appears that the company is planning to deliver software upgrades to it.
Originally released with Android 7.1 Nougat, the gaming smartphone was eventually upgraded to the Oreo version 8.1 system. However, so far owners of the model are waiting for the update to Android 9 Pie, without much certainty if it will come.
The CEO of the company, Min-Liang Tan, even rumbled (in December last year) that the Razer Phone would be considered with the ninth version of the Android OS in 2019. However, expectations of the update’s arrival were lessened when news that the company was not doing so well in the smartphone business emerged.
After so many doubts, recently Razer has published on Reddit that the update will still arrive for the Razer Phone, and best of all, in the coming weeks. Check out the Reddit post:
While this is great news, the company urgently needs to focus on software development for its handsets – the Razer Phone 2, for example, is still “stuck” in an outdated Android security package (February 2019).
