Microsoft’s traditional annual event for the announcement of its flagship Surface device will take place on Wednesday, October 2, and it looks as though the company may see major improvements for this new generation over previous years’ models.
In a US patent application FCC, Mountain View tech giant confirms the existence of a powerful wireless charger with FPC and NFC loop antenna, but not for mobile devices like smartphones, but notebooks! This may suggest that the new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro should be equipped with magnetic induction wireless charging technology.
But we don’t know what the base shape will be and how the device will need to be positioned for its battery to be recharged wirelessly. Microsoft is expected to introduce the new generation of Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 at Wednesday’s event, as well as a new ARM Surface equipped with Snapdragon 8cx chipset to clash with the Galaxy Book S.
Rumors also suggest that the company would be preparing a smart Cortana-powered speaker to try to compete in the Amazon-consolidated market with Echo devices and Google Home, now Google Nest.
In addition, the company has categorically stated in teasers that something “groundbreaking” will be revealed in the presentation, and many expect Microsoft to at least announce without much detail information about the folding screen Surface or the redesigned Windows Lite platform that could dictate the future of the company’s operating system for the next decade.
