990 PRO SSD Based on PCIe 4.0 Announced by Samsung

Samsung announced the high-performance 990 PRO SSD based on the PCIe 4.0 interface and with speeds of up to 7450 MB/s. The South Korean brand also highlighted a gain of up to 55% in read and write performance over the 980 PRO.

According to Samsung, the 990 PRO has sequential read and write speeds of up to 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The model has the following storage options: 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB.

The SSD 990 PRO comes in M.2 2280 format and has up to 4 GB LPDDR4 DRAM. The component’s random read/write speed (QD32) is 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS for read and write, respectively.

The brand also highlighted that the performance boost comes from advances in the proprietary controller and V-NAND. The model offers a version with a heat sink to ensure resistance to higher temperatures, in addition to adding RGB lights.

“With continuing innovations in gaming, 4K and 8K technology as well as AI-driven applications, consumers’ need for high-performance storage is growing exponentially. The 990 PRO provides an optimal balance of speed, power efficiency, and reliability, making it an ideal choice for avid gamers and creative professionals seeking uninterrupted work and play.”
