Apple Announces the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini at the Event

In an event held this Tuesday afternoon, Apple made its new family phones official to the public. The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini arrive with a series of new features in looks and components. Among the highlights are the presence of a minor notch, support for 5G, and the debut of the new A15 Bionic chipset.

The iPhone 13 arrives with a design composed of flat sides and back with the camera block positioned in the left corner. Now, the two lenses are distributed diagonally, in the case of the two more modest models.

The glass on the front has the same Ceramic Shield to give it extra protection, as well as delivering a notch that has dimensions 20% smaller than its predecessors. It also has protection against water and dust, granted by IP68 certification.

Like the previous generation, the sides are aluminum, while the family still does not have physical biometric authentication, but it has Face ID – whose sensor is inside the notch.

Display

The screen is made up of an OLED panel – just like the last generation – Super Retina XDR. The base model will be 6.1 inches, while the iPhone 13 Mini is 5.4 inches in size.

Apple promises 28% more brightness, with a total of 1200 nits. However, the company has not advanced the refresh rate for these two models in the family and is still expected to maintain at 60 Hz. The display still supports technologies such as Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG and would have improvements for energy efficiency.

A15 Bionic, Memories, and Battery

Another highlight is the hardware. The iPhone 13 family comes equipped with the new A15 Bionic chip, which promises better performance to cell phones in the family. The platform delivers six-core processors, two of which are high-performance, while another four deliver high-efficiency. The “Apple” promises to speed up to 50% faster than the competition, not to mention the presence of 5G for a network that is also faster.

As for graphics, the GPU of smartphones here provides four cores, with 30% more speed than their top-of-the-line rivals. Apple even inserted a 16-core Neural Engine, capable of performing 15.8 trillion operations per second.

In memory, now there is no longer the alternative with 64 GB. All models start at 128GB and go up to 512GB. The Cupertino giant also did not disclose the amount of RAM memory.

On drums, once again, there was no official disclosure of official capabilities. However, the company allows up to 1.5 hours more on the iPhone 13 Mini than its predecessor, plus an additional 2.5 hours on the iPhone 13, compared to the previous generation.

Cameras

In the cameras, two sensors of 12MP each are present. The primary lens is a wide-angle lens with an f/1.6 aperture, while the secondary lens consists of an ultrawide lens with an f/2.4 aperture and a 120-degree field of view. At the front, there is also a 12MP front camera.

The difference to the last generation is that this time the wide sensor is 47% larger than the previous year, so it is possible that it captures more light in dark environments. Apple also included night mode in all options.

Additionally, sensor-shift stabilization technology has been added, which reduces blur by physically moving the larger lens.
