Snapdragon 888 Introduced at Snapdragon Summit 2020

On the first day of the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020, Qualcomm introduced its latest mobile platform, the Snapdragon 888. It comes with support for 5G and other news with the promise of boosting experiences for the next-generation devices.

According to Qualcomm Incorporated President, Cristiano Amon, the idea is to prioritize the future in the provision of technological innovations, which can redefine the most advanced experiences of users.

“Creating premium experiences takes a relentless focus on innovation. It takes long term commitment, even in the face of immense uncertainty,” said Cristiano. “It takes an organization that’s focused on tomorrow, to continue to deliver the technologies that redefine premium experiences.”

Qualcomm’s director of product management, Lekha Motiwala, shared the highlights of the company’s new chipset. One of them is the presence of the 3rd generation Snapdragon X60 5G modem. It comes with support for networks at sub-6 GHz frequencies and millimeter waves ( mmWave ), as well as support for 5G operator aggregation, global multi-SIM, stand alone, non- stand alone and DSS.

In addition, the Snapdragon 888 is accompanied by the sixth generation of Qualcomm AI Engine, with a redesigned Qualcomm Hexagon processor to improve performance and energy efficiency, even with 26 TOPS. In addition, there is the second generation Sensing Hub, which incorporates low-power AI processing, aimed at intuitive features.

Another feature is the Snapdragon Elite Gaming, which provides technologies aimed at smartphones. So that games can get the best out of the chipset in them. In the case of the third generation, there is a more significant update to the performance of the Adreno GPU.

Finally, the Snapdragon 888 promises to turn phones into professional quality cameras. The Qualcomm Spectra ISP allows photo and video capture at 2.7 gigapixels per second, 35% faster than the previous generation.
