Windows 10 Pro for Workstations Goes Live

After reviewing feedback from Windows Insiders, Microsoft finally rolls-out the Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, equipped with high-end features. This is an advanced edition of Windows 10 Pro that has been specifically targeted to meet the needs of mission critical and compute intensive workloads.

It is equipped with features like ReFS (Resilient file system), faster file support, persistent memory, and expanded hardware support with up to 4 CPUs and 6TB of memory. Because it’s targeting high-end hardware, therefore, it will also support Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron processors.

“We know that power users have unique needs to run efficiently and we take the feedback we hear seriously. Much of that valuable feedback comes through the Windows Insider Program. Today we are very excited to announce a new edition of Windows 10 Pro designed to meet the needs of our advanced users deploying their Workstation PCs in demanding and mission-critical scenarios. Windows 10 Pro for Workstations will be delivered as part of our Fall Creators Update, available this fall,” Microsoft said in a statement.

Features of Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Resilient File System (ReFS): It enhances the resilience and scalability of workstations by running Microsoft’s server grade and designed to offer an extra level of data availability, resilience, and fault-tolerance. It has been optimized for handling large data volumes and auto-correcting.

Persistent memory: It allows demanding workloads to access important files at the speed of memory with high-end persistent memory hardware configurations. Data can be stored on NVDIMM-N chips and can be retained even when a system is powered off.

Faster file Sharing: SMB facilitates files transfers between PCs and Servers with network cards that contain RDMA chips to perform at full throughput while having low latency.
