Apple Announces The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus With an A11 “Bionic” Chip

Apple has finally taken the curtains from its latest series of iPhones, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus at an event in the new Steve Jobs Theater located at the Apple Park. At the first glance, the design of iPhone 8 looks similar to that of the iPhone 7, but there are small details that make the difference in the design.

“Over the past decade, we’ve pushed forward with innovation after innovation, bringing us to this moment, when we can create devices that are far more intelligent, far more capable, and far more creative than ever before,” said Tim Cook.

Apple has used aerospace-grade aluminum with glass on the front and back. The glass has a seven-layer color process and the company claims it to be the most durable glass ever used in a smartphone. Other new features of iPhone 8 include faster processors, a True Tone display, and upgraded cameras.

So, the biggest change on the outer design is the use of glass on the back.

Specifications of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

From inside, there are several changes which include a faster processor and the inductive wireless charging, which works similar to wireless charging on other smartphones. Just place the iPhone 8 on a charging pad, and it’ll charge up.

Talking about the processor, the company has made an upgrade from the A10 Fusion found in the iPhone 7 to the A11 Bionic. Apple claims it to be 25 percent faster than the A10 because of its six-core chip with two performance cores. The A11 Bionic chip is coupled with a new Apple-designed GPU which is 30 percent faster.

On the display front, the iPhone 8 comes with 4.7-inch display, while the iPhone 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch display.  Both come with True Tone technology, the same we saw on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro that adapts color and temperature to ambient light to offer more accurate colors.

The new camera on the iPhone 8 has a 12-megapixel sensor which is now enabled with optical image stabilization and also performs faster. There is a dual camera setup on the iPhone 8 Plus that offers f/1.8 and f/2.8 apertures. It is claimed that the new camera has “highest quality video capture ever in a smartphone.”

The camera comes with support for 4K/60fps video and also for slow motion videos.

Price and Availability of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

The 64GB variant of iPhone 8 will start at $699 and the 8 Plus at $799 for the same 64GB version. The company has announced that the pre-order for both phones will start from Friday, 15th September, but the release date will be announced later on September 22nd.
