DJI has officially introduced its new line of gimbal stabilizers for professional cameras. The DJI RS 3 and 3 Pro were revealed during an event by the Chinese manufacturer with features that guarantee 20% more stabilization efficiency. In addition, the company announced an unprecedented long-range wireless video transmission kit.
DJI RS 3
The new generation of professional stabilizers succeeds the “RSC 2” line of 2020. The RS 3 represents the most basic model that does not abstain from innovative advanced features, such as its new design with automatic locking and unlocking of axles, eliminating the need for manual configuration and allowing users to start video recordings in a matter of seconds.
Compact, the DJI RS 3 can be connected to the camera via Bluetooth to initiate recordings via controls on its 1.8-inch OLED touch-sensitive screen that “retires” the RSC 2’s barely functional monochrome panel. automatically memorized and reconnected after first use.
The new model inherits the previous generation’s “SuperSmooth” technology to increase gimbal torque and mitigate residual motion with extreme efficiency, “even in fast-moving scenarios or when 100mm-equivalent focal lenses are used,” DJI announces.
Also new is the Gimbal Mode Switch, which allows quick switching between Pan Follow, Pan and Tilt Follow, and FPV modes. DJI RS 3 Pro
For those looking for a more advanced solution, the RS 3 Pro has the same features as the RS 3 but adds support for cameras up to 4.5kg and an interesting feature inherited from the Ronin 4D camera, autofocus via LiDAR. This allows the gimbal to use a laser to accurately estimate the depth of scenes, even with manual focus lenses.
The “DJI LiDAR Range Finder”, as the technology is named, is combined with the “ActiveTrack Pro” to track and keep the focus fixed on a specific object. In addition, there is a new generation RS Focus Motor that provides three times the torque of the RSC 2 motor while reducing noise by 50%.
DJI Transmission is a set of technologies for video transmission from the manufacturer, such that it allows the control and monitoring of recordings in cameras paired to the RS 3 Pro (and the gimbal itself) with real-time transmissions and distances of up to 6 kilometers. with Full HD resolution at 60 FPS.
The set includes a transmitter that must be positioned over the desired equipment and a 7-inch monitor with a 1,500 nits screen, four long-range antennas that operate in the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands, which is “ideal for recordings in complex environments”, such as regions with dense vegetation and aerial images.
The monitor also offers functions to control recordings, such as focus shifting, noise detection, and many other features that will benefit filmmakers. “Broadcast” is a mode that allows an unlimited number of receivers to monitor production, while “Control” allows remote control of devices via two receivers.
