During the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event in virtual form due to the limitations imposed by the pandemic, Samsung presented two new beautiful crafted devices, which make up the third generation of this particular type of smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Z Flip3 5G.
So let’s get to know Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G from a technical point of view immediately before going to talk about their respective peculiarities.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G
Let’s start from the external screen of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G, a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with HD+ resolution (2268 x 832 pixels) with an adaptive refresh rate at 120 Hz. Few differences therefore with Galaxy Z Fold2, from which it differs above all for 120 Hz refresh. The internal screen is a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a QXGA + resolution (2208 x 1768 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Under the body, there is a Snapdragon 888, Adreno 660 GPU, flanked by 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of internal memory of the UFS 3.1 type. Connectivity is also impeccable, with support for 5G networks (SA, NSA, Sub6 / mmWave), 4G / LTE, WiFi 6, and Bluetooth. There is an integrated fingerprint reader on the side frame, a solution made necessary by the presence of the folding screen.
The camera department presents the first big news, represented by the presence of a 4-megapixel camera (f / 1.8) under the screen, positioned at the top of the screen, in the center of the right half screen. On the back, there is instead a triple rear camera, with 12-megapixel main sensor (f / 1.8) with OIS, 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (FoV 123 degrees) (f / 2.2), and 12 megapixels 2x optical zoom (f / 2.4) with digital zoom up to 10x and HDR10 + recording.
The frame is made of reinforced aluminum while the outside of the smartphone is protected by a Gorilla Glass Invictus. The operating system is Android 11 with a customized One UI 3.1 interface, while the battery, composed of two elements, has a total capacity of 4,400 mAh.
The big news compared to the two previous generations is represented by the IPX8 certification, which allows Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G to resist water without particular problems, making it more durable and less prone to damage. The dimensions stand at 158.2 x 67.1 x 16 mm when closed and 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4 mm when open, with a weight of 271 grams, slightly less than the predecessor.
Finally, three colors to choose from: Phantom Black, Phantom Green, and Phantom Silver.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G
The size of the external screen of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 grows. Samsung has chosen a 1.9-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a resolution of 260 x 512 pixels, a strong growth compared to the 1.1 inches (112 x 300) of the Z Flip. The internal screen instead is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with FullHD+ resolution (1080 x 2640 pixels) and an adaptive refresh rate at 120 Hz.
Also in this case Samsung has paid particular attention to the protection of the device, with a reinforced aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Invictus to protect the external part of the device. Even Z Flip3 5G can count on the IPX8 certification which guarantees water resistance. The fingerprint reader is positioned on the side frame, in correspondence with the power / unlock key.
The processor is a Snapdragon 888 with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 660 GPU, flanked by 8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal memory. Connectivity includes support for 5G networks (SA, NSA, Sub6 / mmWave), 4G / LTE, WiFi 6, Bluetooth. The battery, divided into two elements, reaches a capacity of 3,300 mAh.
The photographic sector can count on a double rear camera, with a 12-megapixel main sensor (f / 1.8) with optical image stabilization and a 12-megapixel (f / 2.2) ultra wide-angle 9FoV 123 degrees secondary sensor. The front camera, inserted into the internal screen with a punch hole solution, has a resolution of 10 megapixels (f / 2.4).
There are seven colors available to buyers: Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black, with the Gray, White and Pink versions that can be purchased exclusively on the official Samsung store.
